Hedwig Reincarnated

[shop my outfit: shoes similar bracelet shirt ]

This shirt I got at forever 21 because the owls reminded me of Hedwig from Harry Potter and I knew I was going to be seeing the last movie in the upcoming days. But, I also just love the design of it and its mighty comfortable. For those of you who are curious, day two of rushing went good. I sweated a bit less because it went later into the night instead of starting early. And, let me tell you- these shoes are great. I wore them these past two days and have been so comfortable! Other girls have had to deal with blisters and not enough padding on their flats and these are godsend. However, today I have to wear heels :^O. I know, cuh ray zee.

Emerald Dress

[Shop my outfit: shoes similar bracelet ]

I hope everyone is staying cool in these record highs... I think I sweated more yesterday than all other days of my life combined. Well, that mayyyy be exaggerating, but I swear it was a lot! This week I am rushing so I'm braving the Texas heat and having to still look pretty (which is not an easy feat I tell you!). I've decided that they either have to accept me the way I am (glistening, melting and streaky) or they aren't the best for me ;). Good attitude right? Well here goes day two... wish me luck!

Tree Tee Refashion

My inspiration to mimic:

Using the tutorial from this blog I transformed an American Eagle (guys) tee shirt.

First I tried it on and decided where I wanted the shortest part of the shirt to hit me. Then I approximately added an inch and cut from there.

This is what it looks like after you cut it.

Then I turned the bottom in and ironed it (measuring the whole time to make sure everything was even)

Then I sewed it with two stitches about 1/8 apart. For my sleeves, I just did a stitch to take it in.

Here it is all finished:

Tribal Tee and Coral Shorts

[shop my outfit: similar bracelet shorts shoes ]

Can I just mention that these shorts are extremely comfortable? They're 100% cotton which helps in this Texas heat and the drawstring waist allows me to eat a Chipotle burritos and feel comfortable afterwards ;). But these shoes? Love them. They have a bit of padding at the bottom and don't have gold or silver on them so I can wear them with virtually every outfit. On a side note, this was the first time I "posed" for an outfit picture... it looks extremely awkward. Don't worry, I'm working on it.

My try at the: Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie n’ Oreo Fudge Brownie Bar

Notice how I didn't even introduce this? I tried my hand at it using the recipe (but I used store bought cookie dough instead of making it from scratch). It didn't turn out nearly as pretty but it made up for it's looks in taste.

Birthday Gifts

For those of you curious for what I got for my birthday this post is your wish granted. I don't know if you guys are like me, but I like to ask for specific things for my big day. So, this dress and this necklace were given to me by my lovely mother and sister.
These amazing shoes on the other hand were a gift from my guy. He turned to me suddenly and said "we're going to Target and you're picking out one thing you want." He knows me too well, Target is my Achilles's heel. With my birthday girl luck I found these shoes on sale, in my size for $6.24. Andddd I also found them in black. Because they were so cheap my boy said they counted as "one thing" I tried arguing but gave in... Now I am the happy owner of these beauties (PS- they're comfy too)

My Birthday!

I've been MIA lately because I've been enjoying my birthday weekend :) At midnight I was woken up by a phone call from my guy and told to look out my window. That's when I saw this:

That's right ladies- that's happy birthday written with candles. Sadly, the candles wouldn't stay lit. We decided to just try to light one letter and we'd be satisfied:

So here's the "R" in its blazing glory.

Geo Box

My latest project was inspired by this etsy artist:
I fell in love with this thing, but since I'm cheap and broke I decided to try my hand at DIYing this cutie. This is what you'll need:

  • stones (I used beads from our vast collection)
  • scrap paper
  • ruler
  • white card stock
  • label maker (you could also print the names out on a computer and cut them out)
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • super glue

This picture shows my lovely mother helping me put a piece of scrap paper into the bottom of the box and folding in order to cut the card stock to the right size. This method didn't work so well. Onto plan B!
I measured the back of the shoe box and subtracted 1/2 of an inch from the measurement. My shoe box had a thick border however so your shoe box may not need that much of a difference.
Using those measurements, we cut the scrap paper to size and placed it inside the box. Because this fit perfectly, we cut the card stock to the same size. I just placed my card stock behind the thick edges of my box, but I would suggest gluing the card stock to the bottom of the box if you are using one without thick edges. Once this was completed, I messed around with the stone combinations until I found one that tickled my fancy. Super glue the stones down onto the card stock and then use your handy dandy label maker to make a label for the name of the stone and place it below. This is how mine turned out:
Later on I super glued the bottom edge because one side was higher then the other. Here are some close ups:

I think this project would look even better in a shadowbox- but the shoe box was free and on hand, so I took it. Here's my geo-box in it's natural habitat. (aka my bookshelf/entertainment center)

Out of this World

Lately I've been completely obsessed with space. Perhaps its because I recently took an astronomy class, but most likely it's because I love the contrast of black and cobalt blue that always seems prevalent in space. So, I decided to make a painting based off this photo of a "tarantula nebula":

Stunning right? Well I decided to flip this image and made this:

Comparing the two side by side is kind of disappointing, but I'm still so happy with the way it turned out! Also, after seeing this glowing "star jar" on pinterest:

I decided to make the stars in my painting glow in the dark! I just used a craft store brand t-shirt glow-in-the-dark gel and applied it with a brush over the white dots.
